United Business Class Service During Covid-19

As a world traveler I have had the luxury to experience every type of service from top notch to low class. The following review is specifically on the United Polaris Business Class Cabin from PPT-SFO 777-300ER during the unsettling times of Covid-19.

Let’s begin at the PPT airport in Tahiti:

Masks must be worn by all as soon as you step inside the airport and you cannot take them off unless you are drinking or eating. Upon arrival my family and I were greeted by very kind staff at the front desk of United check in. First time ever in my travel experience we came up to the counter and the clerk knew our last name before we handed over our passports. Possibly because we were the only family crazy enough to take on this journey during Coronavirus.  Check in was extremely fast and easy. We were handed vouchers to the one and only business class lounge at the International Airport

Business Class Lounge:

Yes the lounges are open!!! We were so happy to hear that we could access the lounge where wifi was included, snacks were available and wine was served. Employees wore gloves as well as masks and food was served to you. No one could come up to the bar to help themselves which was a blessing in disguise.

Boarding The Aircraft:

Boarding was fairly simple and standard. We were divided into groups and let on to the airplane by mobile boarding stairs from the outside. This is a cool process since it rarely happens in the States. Being up close and personal to the airplane gives one a magical feeling especially for someone who has missed traveling over the last half a year. We were let onto the front part of the aircraft and were given each a disinfecting wipe. Which was the only main difference which I noticed from pre-covid flights.

Boeing 777-300ER:

What was the main difference from the previous 777-300ER United Polaris flights? Basically nothing. There was just as much bedding waiting for us at the seats as there was before. Two pillows, a blanket, a travel kit and headphones to use on the flight. If you have traveled on this aircraft before, then you know how comfortable and detailed the seats are. If you can take advantage of traveling on this plane for your next trip then I highly recommend it!

Service on United Polaris Cabin:

My expectations were fairly low on how service was going to go on this flight so I was super surprised to learn that we were not only going to be served hot food but alcohol was also included. It is true that there is no longer champagne served at take off. There are also no glasses to cheer with and menus are not given to prevent germs from spreading. But all of that was overlooked by the thought that there was in fact true business class service on the flight. Before take off a stewardess approached each passenger and asked for a beverage choice as well as a meal choice. I opted for ravioli with vegetables which came with a salad, bread and a pastry. Other meal options were chicken and beef. My drink choice was red wine and the only option they had was a South African Sirah. The wine is served in a personal small bottle and is no longer poard to you. Water was also given to each business class passenger in your own bottle. Making everything a bit more personalized.

Since this was a night flight I had enough in me to eat the meal, watch a movie and try to get in five hours of sleep. For breakfast we did not have a choice on a meal. We were served grilled cheese sandwiches which were just okay in my opinion. Finishing off the flight with a full service but with very limited choices.

Customs at the airport:

The airport is fairly empty nowadays and going through customs was incredibly fast and painless. Since we were traveling in business class we were let out of the plane first. There was basically no line at the airport to go through an immigration officer and the luggage came out as soon as we came up to the carousel. Ending our travel experience on a high note during the unknown Covid-19 times.
